Celebrate your moment of irrelevant work!!!

I have read so many books and blogs stating that 10,000 hour rule. It sounds true & logical to me.

But in those 10,000 hours, you shall often come across stages when you will find you are working but that work is irrelevant. You are toiling hard without any fruit.

You actually don’t like your work yourself that forget others liking it.

To practice for hours without any fruit is also an art. It really exposes your true mettle. Are you ready to do the hard yards?

Every athlete, performer, artist, writer, poet and painter goes through this phase when you just keep producing the work but you don’t actually find any meaning into it. It’s the part of a creative process.

Not every day you will find your work producing desired results. When you are going through this phase, you start doubting your ability. It is the most vulnerable phase for an artist (any craft) for that matter anybody...

Following your intuition is painful but it’s sweet

Everybody says, follow your intuition, do what your heart says, sometimes it’s better to ignore your mind but in reality, if you become a hardcore practical person, it’s far more easier not to listen to your gut.

There are many stories that now & then find their place in the air like that of Steve Jobs, he followed his gut, he went with his inner voice but life throws so much that it will be so cruel of you to ignore the reality.

Many people find themselves stuck at their crappy job for most part of their life, they struggle like a caged bird to break free but their circumstances far outweigh their intuitive fantasies.

Putting yourself in that person’s shoes and imagining faces of your family members in place of his, can you follow intuition? It’s simply not easy.

But on contrary, you have one life, make best out of it. Do the best, make people happy, make more money, have...

A culture that every company needs to nurture

Going through Microsoft’s Linkedin profile, I clicked on the product & services section to know what else they have to offer.

I was extremely delighted to see they run a “GARAGE”.

Well, it’s a leisure place where employees can let their wildest dreams or projects take shape.

Yeh, the place where employees after work can take up their dream projects & actually work on them at their own pace & intellectual levels.

A place where you get technical help if you are not geeky or do anything that sets your pulse racing.

The place is indeed home to some of the innovations that you see in Microsoft products. It’s not at all the place where people come to pass their time to have free coffee & pizza.

Well I dedicated some 8 lines to Microsoft’s promotion, you have full right in your capacity to think that either I am being paid or I am a Microsoft loyal.

No guys, it’s something I miss at my...

Hassles of ‘Self Publishing a Book’ but I will still go for it!!!

Skimming through James Altucher’s famous blogpost “How to Self Publish a Bestseller” several times & researching many options of publishing a book, I now officially have spend more time knowing how to publish a book then actually writing one.

Well, I definitely would; once I get on with it seriously but any bit of the information on the book publishing is worthy for my future endeavors.

In the context, there are two ways of going about it. Either you have the option of going for the traditional one which as it appears has become less cumbersome due to the advent of the other option.

The other is ‘Self Publishing’.

On the face value of it Self Publish looks more lucrative. Why?

Coz, all the money that your book might earn for you will directly come to you. No middleman. No publishing house involved.

The worst part is- all the expenses will be borne by you.

Your expenses will...

How to prepare for good omen?

I attended a live band performance for the first time last night. Though I have seen numerous performances live but having seen a band operate was like out of this world.

I was intrigued by their sheer professional approach. I came in & sat in the auditorium well before the stipulated time. All the band members were gathered there fine tuning their sound systems, their equipments & instruments. They were cross checking before the event.

OK, that’s the ritual. But in the hindsight they were preparing themselves emotionally & psychologically before the night. The ritual is just the part, there is more associated to it than just fine tuning systems.

It is so important to prepare yourself before the event. Those who prepare well in advance, sort of visualize the event before it. They repeat what they have to do, how they will do it & even they visualize the reaction of the crowd.

Do you prefer a roller coaster life or a comfy life?

I always had the fascination to write a book. I would fantasize of standing at the podium & delivering the welcome note before the launch of my book.

I thought of media people thronging by my counter & people gather to hear me say.

Then I pick up a mike & utter few words to describe what exactly my book is all about.

I would ask people to put their questions across & I would be more than happy to answer them.

Media people asking me how I got the idea to write the book & do I plan to make a movie out of it which looks the preferred case with most bestselling authors these days.

At last I would sign in few copies for people & would pose with them.

At the end I would be delighted to be delivered a royalty cheque by my publisher.

All looks surreal. Everything seems to be perfect, right!!!

If things would happen in such a predicted manner do you really think there is life in life?

Doing multitasking, you liar!!!

I am pretty much attracted towards the very concept of multitasking. I have seen people listen to music while they are indulged into other activity.

And I am pretty much amazed at their potential. I mean I can only do one task at a time. Either I am listening to music or I am writing. Both task are independent of each other & require the brain in the same proportion that any other activity requires.

Though it is perfectly possible to switch your mind from one task to another like you can do different tasks while watching TV but only when you decide to switch your attention from that task during the commercial break to other duties.

People do multiple work at a single moment of time but don’t you think the quality of work hinders. Even the most renowned psychologists find it absurd when people say their brain performs multiple tasks at a single given moment of time.

It is...

Perspective makes all the difference

Just sitting in the office and enjoying a cup of masala tea that too when you are wandering into your memory lane is the best experience one gets when you have so many memories to cherish about.

You tend to get lot of past experiences wherein you will observe; you have a completely different perspective than you had previously.

Like, I used to hate my teachers. Even few who were nice with the kids were constantly under the radar for having to share the same staffroom with the not so liked ones.

Life has come full circle till now. I have started to respect the profession & its novelty. In fact I realize being a teacher your responsibility doubles up as you have the job of molding so many futures & you can’t take things complacently. Hell Ya!!!

Similarly a lot depends upon the perspective. How you see the things & how they actually are.

Our perspective clearly manifests what type...

‘The price of our dreams’

Till my eyes can see, I find people not comfortable with the job at hand. They either rant at what they are going through or have something to say about the misdeeds of their bosses.

What’s going on? Why people are so unhappy? Everybody seems to be going through the motions & when it comes to feedback they vent their anger to their stars & play their best game- Blame Game.

If people are so tired of their job, then it’s time they should quit.

‘Easier said than done’. People have their own insecurities & circumstances that don’t allow them to pursue the life of their choice.

Dreams don’t come cheap. They are expensive. They make people do ‘extra ordinary’ things. Probably that’s why they come with a healthy price tag on them.

What’s the price- well few have to sacrifice their monthly income that might jeopardize their family’s future. Few have expectations to meet. Some can’t...

Blaming & making excuses can land you in your dream job. How? Read it.

Well, I am always intrigued by the concept of creativity. It was the first question put on me when I applied for the post of copy writer.

“How creative are you?”, asked the creative director. I said, I am very much a creative block. Pat, comes the second question, ‘How do you know?’ now that made me nervous.

I pullback my composure & told with all innocence, I happen to perform tasks creatively. People recognize me as a creative person.
Looked not convinced by the answer, he says, “coz people say you are creative, you think you are.” Things started to sound crappy & I was fuming from inside on myself, why I gave that answer. He will grill me to the core. Shit!!! Man.

“Ok, no issues tell me how creatively you can mend this fan”. Hanging from the ceiling, the fan looked totally out of order for a long time. Suddenly all negative thoughts surrounded at the same time. What if this...
