Hassles of ‘Self Publishing a Book’ but I will still go for it!!!
Skimming through James Altucher’s famous blogpost “How to Self Publish a Bestseller” several times & researching many options of publishing a book, I now officially have spend more time knowing how to publish a book then actually writing one.
Well, I definitely would; once I get on with it seriously but any bit of the information on the book publishing is worthy for my future endeavors.
In the context, there are two ways of going about it. Either you have the option of going for the traditional one which as it appears has become less cumbersome due to the advent of the other option.
The other is ‘Self Publishing’.
On the face value of it Self Publish looks more lucrative. Why?
Coz, all the money that your book might earn for you will directly come to you. No middleman. No publishing house involved.
The worst part is- all the expenses will be borne by you.
Your expenses will include copy editing (grammar, vocabulary, contextual errors etc.), designing a book cover & the dreaded marketing expense.
Why I wrote dreaded is because it is the most typical & expensive part. But you can’t take it for granted or you run the risk of losing your book into the ocean of obscurity. You want your book to reach to masses, right?
But you will be happy to hear that a bit effort from your side can really boost your chances of a successful book.
Build your Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn community from right away. If you intend to publish your book in the near future or may be 3 years down the line.
A vibrant community of followers will be your word of mouth marketers & your future customers as well. They have the potential to make your book turn into a Best Seller.
You can also distribute your book to the best reviewers or few of your intended audience for free to get some free pre-release hype.
Positive reviews from reputed reviewers go a long way in deciding the fate of your book.
If you intend to bring print version as well then better shell out some more money to find top rows of the famous bookstores in your city.
That was about marketing that you can do from your side. But apart from Social Networking a professional agency would do all the part for you. But it definitely requires some efforts from your side as well.
I take to the most important part of “Self Publishing” in my next post. Stay tuned!!!
Got to catch the metro. Bye
