Celebrate your moment of irrelevant work!!!
I have read so many books and blogs stating that 10,000 hour rule. It sounds true & logical to me.
But in those 10,000 hours, you shall often come across stages when you will find you are working but that work is irrelevant. You are toiling hard without any fruit.
You actually don’t like your work yourself that forget others liking it.
To practice for hours without any fruit is also an art. It really exposes your true mettle. Are you ready to do the hard yards?
Every athlete, performer, artist, writer, poet and painter goes through this phase when you just keep producing the work but you don’t actually find any meaning into it. It’s the part of a creative process.
Not every day you will find your work producing desired results. When you are going through this phase, you start doubting your ability. It is the most vulnerable phase for an artist (any craft) for that matter anybody, he/she is prone to succumb to slightest of the criticism that is where your belief system comes into play.
I have went through numerous moments when as a writer I have asked questions to myself. Am I good enough as a writer? People don’t think so. They say you won’t earn much and even if you carry forward this career, what is the guarantee your work will ever find a place in the book shelves?
All theses doubts are just meant to test you (hopefully). This black phase however lays the foundation of a true great artist or genius given that you are ready to work your way through it.
Those hours when you feel that you are actually producing almost zero result, your subconscious mind is actually conditioning itself about what really works & what doesn’t.
If your true passion lies in it, you will fight your way through that period and start the process all over again and if you get broken, choose another career. Simple as it may get!!!
Moreover, god hasn’t provided you with all the talent in the world that your every work always mystifies your audience. To err is human. But have one thing in mind if your more than 60% of work is able to get the required attention. You are actually a topnotch into your field. Period.
Before any success and popularity, every artist or professional has to go through their moments of obscurity. Failure is eminent and when after falling you get up, you are better person having better understanding with better response to failure and now chances are you will fail less.
But you will. Life after all is one true mystery where nothing is permanent.
Have you ever felt those hours of irrelevant work or is it only me who get these unusual experiences?
Tell me. I am actually waiting.
