Doing multitasking, you liar!!!

I am pretty much attracted towards the very concept of multitasking. I have seen people listen to music while they are indulged into other activity.

And I am pretty much amazed at their potential. I mean I can only do one task at a time. Either I am listening to music or I am writing. Both task are independent of each other & require the brain in the same proportion that any other activity requires.

Though it is perfectly possible to switch your mind from one task to another like you can do different tasks while watching TV but only when you decide to switch your attention from that task during the commercial break to other duties.

People do multiple work at a single moment of time but don’t you think the quality of work hinders. Even the most renowned psychologists find it absurd when people say their brain performs multiple tasks at a single given moment of time.

It is practically impossible. It takes an exceptional brain to do that but for us, mere mortals it is a farfetched idea.

The irony is I find many job advertisements with a mandatory required capability as multitasking. Funny na!! Yeh I know.

Yes, let’s come back to what multitasking does to people who say they are doing so. Your brain is not a computer, it has the capability to let you think & do amazing tasks but like a PC it cannot process multiple inputs.

You want to know why?

We humans hardly have dual core processor. We generally have to manage with a single processor. So sad!

Take this for an example- you cannot do eating & sleeping at one moment of time. Can you adjust them into your multitasking schedule during a meeting? You simply can’t.

For the same reason your boss, wife or parents might scold you with the argument that what is your thinking apart from the present?

Similarly, a driver is not allowed to receive a call while driving. Coz, your body is meant to perform only one job at a time.

Coming back to quality, try listening to music & do some intense thinking task, compare the result with independent tasks. The outcome & quality will substantially differ.

Therefore, I think we need to mold the definition of multitasking. Isn’t it? Do comment.
