Why we all wear mask?
Probably, we all wear mask of some sort. We all are pure till we are at our home barring few exceptions but the moment we step into this dirty little world, we suddenly wear mask.
Mask to veil our true identity. Why one hides his/her identity? The reasons vary from person to person. A job seeker wears the mask of the best applicant for the job in front of the employer, boyfriend wears the mask of best lover, student wears the mask of an obedient child and etc.
It all goes pretty well till these masks are on the face, the moment they are unveiled, the true identity is exposed naked. Most times the sufferer always is the person who wears the mask.
People no more believe him (even if he is telling the truth). He stands to lose his job, friends, colleagues, lover, investors etc. Now when he stands exposed, the real bone of contention is why at all we feel the necessity to do so?
The answer lies in our insecurities. We are afraid of being judged. We fear that if someone doesn’t like something related to us, we may loose the favor he is extending to us. We wear mask because we become slaves of the reasons outside our control. So our masks are the results of our fear. And we all wear it.
Have you seen a child- he laughs, cries, questions & speaks in the manner that there is nobody to judge him. He doesn’t wear the mask. He just does everything from the heart & the world seems less complex.
But as we grow older, our inner child disappears into the darkness of maturity. Our curiosities, fondness, finding happiness in the small things vanish away and the place is taken over by our insecurities. This kills our inner self and the moment it happens we wear the mask to pretend as the best suited in the role we are playing.
It’s a great feeling when you tear that mask off; you behave as if you are the same child again. Suddenly, the whole world of opportunities galore before of you. And guess what, you don’t fear anymore from failure and you just don’t care if anyone is judging you because all you are interested into exploring. We all need to let our inner child to take over and let it break into its original form. It’s a great feeling.
